Overly academic fan seeks other obsessed fans...

I'm posting this on behalf of Lockheed (nyx7@yahoo.com), as she needs help in order to graduate on time. You may have caught wind of this project before, as she posted a similar announcement on GWA and on several mailing lists. I offered to post it up here, as the sort of peopel that will see it here are just the sorts of people she wants to talk to. ^^



As some of y'all already know, I am writing a
thesis on internet fandom -- specifically, the GW
fandom -- in order to complete my BA. As part of the
thesis, I would like to do a bunch of interviews and
whatnot with people about how they use the internet
for fannish things.

Basically, whatever people have to say about the
fandom online, be it critical commentary of a mailing
list or a description of how you write, beta, post or
read (or lurk), I would love to hear. There is no
wrong thing to say! Tell me how you use the internet
to be a fan. Be detailed. Be enthusiastic. ^_^

If you're not sure what I'm getting at...I mean things
like mailing lists with daily digests, archives,
fanfiction.net, IM and p2p file-sharing programs.
What sort of options do those things give you that you
wouldn't have off-line? How many fans have you been
able to meet who live far away from you? What does it
cost you to be a fan here? (In terms of time or
money...)

And if you do anything fannish off-line, I'd love to
hear about that, too! (Go to cons, meet your favorite
author or beta-reader off-line, trade tapes, etc.)
Tell me anything and everything! Fanfiction, fan art,
AMVs, mp3s, whatever.

Ideally, I'd like to do interviews over IM, but I know
not everybody would find that comfortable or
convenient, so e-mail is fine, too.

Is there a deadline for this, Mikke? I could probably help, but I'll be away until late Monday. I swear I've done just about everything she describes in her letter...

Yes, there is a deadline, but it's not until the end of the month -- she'll still be doing interviews until the end of next week at least, most likely. Thank you so much!
