"Thank you for calling the Enterprise Help Desk, what can I do for you today?"
"Hi, I'm trying to remote in from home and I can't get a wireless connection on my laptop."
"Do you have a wireless network at home?"
"No... why, does that make a difference?"

"Hi, I'm trying to remote in from home and I can't connect to the Boeing internal website."
"Do you have internet at home on your personal computers, can you access non-Boeing sites like google?"
"No, that's why I'm calling you!"

"Hi, I'm trying to remote in from home and I don't know my userid."
"Do you have a remote access account?"
"No, what's that?"
Et cetera, et cetera, all day.
I don't blame people for staying home, tho. Wish *I* could have. We got about 6 inches of snow, which isn't all that much by absolute standards, but from the time I got up till the time I went home exactly zilch had been done about removing it from the roads. Adventerous! I've never been so glad to be driving a manual, and never before wished to have an SUV. The only good thing about it was that even going on 4 PM, there was a grand total of maybe 10 cars on the freeway at a time.

Date: 2008-12-19 01:47 am (UTC)As someone who had to get into work no matter the weather... I am a frequent wfh person if there is the slightest chance of snow or ice. That said, I made sure everything was working w/ the remote connection *before* doing so!
Got your card the other day. *hugs*

Date: 2008-12-19 02:14 am (UTC)Our snow melted. Kids had to go to school today. They weren't happy about it. Of course now it's falling again and sticking a bit... so who knows if they'll be going tomorrow.
