Spore!

Spore, as you may know, is a recent video game in which the player designs, creates, and 'evolves' a custom critter through different stages of historical development (animal, prehistory, industrial, and space-age.) There has been controversy on both sides in response to the game: some people who are offended that it seems to be promoting evolution, and some people who are offended that it seems to be promoting intelligent design. The mystery of how it can offend both groups at once is, I feel, best summed up in the second to last paragraph of this person's post:

Please understand my beliefs

Oh, that site. XP Didn't you know it was all a giant hoax already? Or am I just a gamer geek because I read about it on a gaming blog?

LOLZ! Yeah, I heard about it when it first came out and all the gamers were flailing over it. There was such a mad rush to comment spam for about a week, until that Rickroll post came out.

XD;; It was a very well done hoax.

At which point the rush to comment spam multiplied EXPONENTIALLY!!!
Epic. It's really the only word for it.

I'm thinking about comments #4 and #5. Did God not read the whole post, or is He maybe kinda out of touch and didn't understand it? Though you think He'd have noticed if somebody miquoted His Word. As for #5, at least Satan is honest enough to admit he totally didn't read the whole thing.

(As for the other ~two thousand commenters who replied without bothering to read the entire post first... ahhh, what is there to say?)

That's really what's amusing me about the whole thing -- that every comment that jumps in there, often with quite obscene and vicious language, to insult and berate the original poster for not understanding, or being illiterate, or being out of touch with reality, is guilty of the exact same thing.

Holy sweet baby Jeebus... That was too damned funny. I'm trying to decide which is funnier: the fact that it's a huge hoax and everyone essentially just got Rickroll'd, or all the 'fuck you, you Christian sonsabitches' comments from people who are too stupid to realize that they have fallen prey to one of the classic blunders. The most famous, of course, is never get involved in a land war in Asia, but only slightly less well-known is this: never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line. Thirdly (and slightly less well-known than the bit about Sicilians) is that one should pay attention before one makes a complete and utter ass of oneself by jumping to conclusions and essentially posting to God and evreyone on the internet that you are an absolute idiot.
