Baton club

The Japanese have a traditional school activity for girls called 'baton twirling.' This seems to be a semi-athletic activity that's a cross between ballet and cheerleading. Our school's club is apparently one of the best in the region. I've seen them perform at bunkasai; they're very pretty to watch, although they do still drop the batons a lot.
Overall I think it's nice that they have this female-centered activity, like cheerleading, but for its own sake, without railroading it into an auxiliary activity dependent on men's athletics
