I am feeling more cheerful about life in Toyama, now that I'm back from my vacation. Obviously the break has done me good. The weather hasn't improved much, but I can keep in high spirits anyway, at least so far. I have snuggly things: heaters, and HOT BLANKETs, and water bottles. And every day, bit by bit, the light is getting longer.

I've noticed the day getting longer has lightened my mood a bit too.

Yea for a relaxing vacation.

Honestly I think that's what's bothered me the most about living here, Japan doesn't have Daylight Savings, so it just gets so dark here so early. :\

This time of year we don't have daylight savings either. Sun comes up at about 8 am, and goes down at 4:45 pm, so you can go to work in your cubical in the darkness, and leave it in the darkness and miss the entire day. I don't know how people in Alaska do it. We won't get day light savings again until April.

And, of course, anything looks good after 75 hours of traveling!

Seriously, life is always better when you can keep warm.

Last year, when it came time to put away all my winter stuff, I felt bizarrely sad and disappointed. It's contrary and ridiculous, I know, but I just felt sad knowing I wasn't going to have the pleasure of a hot water bottle or hot tea on a cold day any more!
