Okay, so I decided I had to post this.

Yes, it's real, in that it's an actual page from my Cultural Studies workbook. Every time I pass by it it cracks me the hell up, so I decided to scan the page and upload it here. I present to you:

The Strange Foreigner

The Strange Foreigner

Naturally, I applied myself to figuring out the answer to the question: namely, what rules is he breaking? Here's what I've come up with so far. Feel free to contribute your own.

1) Bad beer may not be brought to a Japanese school. Students must bring sake, or at the very least Kirin.

2) Student has clearly not brought enough cigarettes to share.

3) Words on the tattoo are misspelled. This creates an un-academic atmosphere.

4) Student does not have a school sticker on his Harley.

5) Pets should on no account be leashed to a moving vehicle. I mean, really now.

6) The knife the student is carrying is .5 inches over the regulated 6 inch length.

7) Skull and crossbones are not appropriate decorations for innerwear. Student should switch to Hello Kitties, if possible, or at the very least to hearts.

8) Student is out of uniform. Student is showing too much leg for the male uniform, but not enough for the female uniform.

9) Student is clearly smiling and talking. At a strict Japanese high school, neither of these are permissible.

10) The foreign student's hair is acceptable, but the girls in the back have clearly been using curling irons on their hair, which is forbidden. They must shave immediately.

Any other ideas?

Ahaha. This is what my husband would look like if he ever went to Japan. Except he'd have a cat instead of a dog.

*dies*

It looks like they modeled the foreigner after Scott McNeil. ^_~

We should be glad that the dog is on a leash? XD I am also admiring of the fact that he can drink beer and smoke at the same time. Truly he has come to teach the students valuable skills for when they go to English speaking countries. Sculling will be tested vigorously!

I loved your list ^____^

Shouldn't this fellow be wearing a safety helmet?

Also, the only fashionable form of male long hair is dreadlocks these days. He should be sporting a partially or totally shaven scalp.

Truly, I'm astonished by how well-kept his hair appears to be, given how messy the rest of him looks. :) I bet he uses L'Oreal.

Because he's worth it.

That is so not a Harley. It's a Suzuki. The engine block and front shocks on Harleys are different. XD

I have printed this and distributed it through the office. <3

Haha, I guess you're right. I was assuming that a foreigner would of course have a foreign motorcycle, but maybe the artist didn't know what one looked like to draw it. ;)

With the import duties that Japan levies? That kid's Harley is in his parents' garage in Lancaster, I'm sure! XD

Isn't High School meant for people under the age of 30?

Hehehe. Not what they used to say, according to what I read in the news a few months ago...
