sparrows, spiders and flies
Aug. 13th, 2006 02:41 pmMAY AND ANYONE ELSE WHO DIDN'T BELIEVE ME ABOUT THE SPARROWS:
HORROR.
I always compose long, rambling, poetic journal entries when I'm riding my bike to and from somewhere, and then when I sit at a computer it all sort of flees away. So I'll stick to once more spazzing about the insects around here: the spiders are KING in this area. They are everywhere and you would not believe the webs. D: Once I get myself organized, I'll upload a few pictures I took.
However, at some point it occurred to me what insects I WASN'T seeing: mosquitos. This is really surprising, actually, considering that my home is surrounded by rice paddies, and thus, standing water. It's perfect breeding ground for mosquitos, I should be seeing clouds of them, but I can't recall seeing any, not at any time of day. I also haven't seen clouds of flies. Maybe the spiders are eating them. In which case I think I can put up with the spiders.
I really think I could come to love this countryside. It's pretty rural, all right, inasmuch as a city can also be rural at the same time (did I mention the rice paddies? Privately owned by the local families that work around here) but there's something about it that is fresh and clean. Maybe it's the lack of clouds of insects, or the lack of litter by the roadsides (there is some, but not much, really just enough to let you know that people come this way.) but there is also an air of something thriving and living and growing that I... did not often encounter in rural settings in America. I don't know why.

Date: 2006-08-14 05:15 am (UTC)Well, it's because I always get annoyed when online things ask me for personal information. ^^;; I tend to give fake names and/or birthdays without thinking, especially if it's a secondary account (like that one is) that isn't going to be used for business purposes or anything.
