Regardless of whether we can get a bill of impeachment going, my hope is still that the civilized nations of the world will initiate an International War Crimes Trial (the accused: Bush; Cheney; Rumsfeld; perhaps Gonzales for his endorsement as top law enforcement official in the US, of the use of torture). The legality is beyond question: we are not only in violation of international treaties on wars of aggression, rules of occupation of a conquered country and the use of torture against prisoners, we also, by participating in the Nuremburg Trials of Axis war criminals, endorsed the notion that our leaders could be held to the same standard some day in a world court. Sure, judgments could not be enforced at present, but none of these people could ever step foot outside the United States for the rest of their lives.
I'm more in the nature of "FINALLY, WHAT TOOK YOU SO LONG?" to get at least the motion of an impeachment trial started. And guh, of course, at some of the responses. "You can't impeach a president just because you disagree with him," says James Barnett. And it's
1) Why not? You did. Or at least tried. 2) They aren't impeaching him because they disagree with his policies. They're impeaching him because he lied, broke the law, and brought more criminal corruption into the White House than has been seen in a generation or two. Weren't you listening?
Not that all of this really needs to be said to you...
I'd like to point out that Bush might not agree with your plea. He'd say God was on his side. But then don't they always say that.
what scares me is that as much as his opinion ratings go down and as stupid as he is and etc, there are still some ppl in the US that think we should have gone to war, and they're not stupid ppl. my co-worker's husband was in the navy and in the war and we heard a quote by condy "we all knew sadam had wmd." i came back with yeah right sure he did. and my co-worker said that oh but of course he had them. he certainly acted like he had them, he was killing ppl and stuff. we had to stop him.
all of my "we kill ppl too, sovereign nation status, UN inspectors, etc" only got, "well the military would know better than we would anyway, wouldn't they? they were there." eek! but i like her! and she's smart! wtf! how come smart ppl believe in bush???
i'd be afraid of an impeachment failing and then the republicans banking on guilt to get in next term. grr.

You mean the way the people retaliated overwhelmingly in the 2000 election after the Clinton impeachment farce, disapproved of by over 70% of Americans while it was going on? Memories are short, unfortunately, except among fanatics, most of whom are right-wing, committed Republican votes anyway.
Why smart people "believe" in Bush is complicated, but what is simple is human nature: our minds are evolved not to reason, but to rationalize.
