Why do unexpected automotive (or medical) expenses always follow right on the heels of indulgent splurges?

My thoughts this morning, while backing my car out of the garage:

Me: Okay, I'm going to need to buy butter, veggies, chicken, DVDs...

Car: *crunch*

Me: ...and duct tape. Yeah, duct tape.

Yeah. It's a very narrow garage, and normally I'm more careful than that, but I guess I was just out of it this morning.
