Well, we have solved the mystery of the missing roommate. He was in a car accident the day after the lease was signed.

Where am I supposed to get a new roommate at this time of year?

[edit] Must clarify, roommate is not dead. But his mother at least does not think he'll be moving in any time soon. :-\ On one hand she seems to think it reasonable to continue to pay his half of the rent through the summer months. On the other hand, I was kind of counting on his furniture, and it's kind of lonely here.

Crap! Does that mean he's not coming back to school, or something equally "whole life must change"? Because technically, unless you and the landlord also agree, he can't get out it, even if he moves in later than expected. He did sign a legal agreement, after all.
