Somehow, while listing "paper angst, housing angst, finals angst" I left out SUMMER JOB ANGST. I can't continue working for the helpdesk over the summer -- they won't have a position open. Of the other jobs I looked into that were hiring students for the summer, the only one that panned out was a job at the copy center.
Only the lady just called me back, and it turns out she doesn't want a worker for the summer -- she wants a worker for the year, and the only thing that would be happening in the summer would be 'training.'
I don't want a job for the year. I like the job I have now quite a lot -- I like the work I do, and the people I work with, and the fact that I get to work with a computer with internet access. These are all things I value in a job, and the copy center doesn't have any of them. Plus it pays less than the job I have now, and the atmosphere of the place kind of creeps me out (no windows, for one thing.)
I'd call it a total bust, except she also mentioned that someone else in the library -- the shelving department -- IS hiring for the summer, and since shelving is largely not a job that requires a lot of training, I wouldn't have to put it off for three months. She basically said that for the hours I'm not doing 'training' in the copy center, I could work in the shelving department and make up the time.
Isn't there any way I can work in the shelving department for the summer, and go back to my IT job in the fall, and cut out the copy center entirely?
Perhaps not, since the lady will only give me this guy's contact number when I come in to sign the paperwork that says I'll work for them. Grrr.
I don't know what to do, really.
