I've been named by it twice, so clearly it's destiny.
1. Total volume of music files on my computer?
According to iTunes, 3891 songs, comprising 15.91 gigs. This figure may be a little off, though, because some files aren't in my library, and some are in there twice.
2. The last CD I bought was...
I think that would be the System of a Down album I bought before coming back to school... Toxicity. Not really indicative of my music status, though.
3.a) The last song I listened to before writing this was...
Xiang Yue 1998 - Faye Wong & Na Ying. I love this song, even though I can't understand a word it says -- it's in cantonese. But it's eerie and beautiful.
3.b) Song playing right now?
Separation, by Angela. Both this song and its counterpart, Shangri-La, are gorgeous songs in an excellent voice.
4. Five songs I listen to a lot or that mean a lot to me:
A) 24, by Jem.
I got this when
hime1999 passed it to me. I listened to it and first thought "this is the awesomest song EVER," then after a while thought "eh, it's a cute song, but not all that special" and then I listened a little more and decided it IS really awesome. It's a song about someone who has just found out that they are going to die in 24 hours -- judging by the tone of the song, and some of the lyrics, not exactly a peaceful natural death. The verses progress through the singer's feelings of panic and rage, grief, a certain kind of peace... What makes it especially powerful, though, is that the chorus changes every time as the hours tick down. That, combined with the strong, driving beat, create a scary sense of urgency. The last verse finishes with "in just one hour," and then the song ends with a very final-sounding chord that just sends shivers up your spine.
B) Grieve, by Peter Gabriel.
I think I can count myself fortunate that I've never gone through what this song is singing about, but it's just so damn powerful that it almost makes my cry regardless. It's a slow, beautiful song, that just reaches out and captures the essence of mourning.
looks like it always did
this flesh and bone
just the way you are tied in
now there's no-one home
I grieve
for you
You leave
me
C) It's My Life, by Sakura Tange
Hah, this one's not death-related! Actually, I don't really know what it's about, seeing as it's in Japanese and all. But something about it is just so optomistic and uplifting that I love listening to it.
D) Break Your Heart, by Barenaked Ladies
Actually, nothing about this song is particularly special to me -- happy to say I've never had a dysfunctional breakup, so the lyrics don't really speak to me. I just listen to it a lot, because it so much fun to sing along to. "I didn't mean to break yo-o-u-u-r he-e-a-a-r-t."
E) Bratja.
Ah, jeez, I don't have to explain this one, do I? <3
5. Which five people are you passing this baton to and why?

titlecharacter Because what sort of music do you listen to, anyway?
darksea Because she is the goddess of Escaflowne music, and I wanna know what else she has.
