Badminton & kyoto
Mar. 7th, 2007 04:24 pmI spent much of the morning playing badminton with the students -- to the extent that I have a hard time picking up a glass of water now, cos my hand shakes too hard. Heh. I'd never played badminton before in my life, that I can remember, and at first I flailed away wildly and failed to hit the birdie completely. Then I managed to arrange the racket into a grip like a fencing rapier, and at least I was able to make more hits than misses, although I'm sure that's the worst grip to have ever. Thank god it was just badminton and not tennis, or I'd probably have broken my finger.
Also, I don't know if it's all Japanese schoolgirls or just my students, but they are so damn cute when it comes to sports. Whenever they made a point, they would jump up and down and cheer, and if they missed a shot, they would fall to the ground and wail. They were also pretty darn good players, too!
On the weekend of the 17th and the 18th, I'm going down to Kyoto! Yay!
