Why didn't anyone tell me that Nyquil would make me go to sleep? e_e

If I'd known this, I would have gotten a bottle ages ago. Best thing for insomnia ever.

In news:
-Yesterday went downtown. It was on a class trip of sorts for my Engineering project. We were visiting a place called the LA Eco-village, by which they mean apartment building. There were some nice things about it -- particularly the gardens, which were beautiful and well-tended and full of cats and bunnies (though not at the same time.) However -- how to say this? If any conservative press had written an article about this place denouncing it as a pit of filth and sinful denigration of the human spirit, I'd be inclined to agree. One of the first things I saw, on entering the hallway, was a large poster of a caricatured Chilean (that's what the caption said, I wouldn't have known) sodomizing an elected official. Right next to it on the wall was a teddy bear with a large anarchy symbol (you know, the A in the circle) carved into its face. Frankly, this is the kind of lunatic fringe I'd rather not be associated with ecological conservation kthx.

At any rate, the entire trip was miserable, mostly on account of me being very sick. Normally I don't allow for things like illness when making plans, but if I had really gotten it into my head that a six-hour trip into LA was going to be more stressful than attending a class, I might have played hooky. Bleargh. At least my team members are nice, and the professor is nice, so it wasn't like the company was a problem.

-Received two seperate emails in school mailbox that made me want to hit my head against something. One was from my Japanese professor, saying "Oh, by the way, we have a unit test tomorrow." Thanks, Sensei. You told us about this when exactly? >_< Guess I know what I'll be doing today.
The other was a notification that the following header had appeared in the latest issue of the Claremont newspaper: "SURVEY SAYS PITZER STUDENTS PROMISCUOUS, DENY HAVING STDS."
Once more thanks. If it weren't already almost 4 PM (how did I manage to sleep that late?) I'd go back to bed.

The problem with Nyquil is that it gets very addictive. I was using it to get to sleep too and had to stop. I would sleep really good for a few hours and then I would wake up abruptly with my heart racing. @_@;

You might want to check with the mater, but my understanding is that the ingredient in Nyquil that makes you go to sleep is the antihistamine, so you can achieve the same effect with just plain Benadryl. (The stuff that's addictive and wakes you with your heart racing is the cough syrup part, which is strong stuff, I think.)

You should get some Benadryl, or one of its generic antihistamine equivalents -- be sure not to get one combined with a decongestant like Sudafed, though, because that's a stimulant. I've been using Benadryl as an occasional sleep aid for years, and I don't think there's anything wrong with it if you don't overdo it.

...Wow. I just realized. For a month I haven't been able to sleep a whole night through (due to anxiety), and yet it never occured to me to take Benadryl. Damn, I'm stupid.

I can't remember the name of it, but there's an over the counter medication that's literally the hormone in your brain that helps you regulate your internal clock. Seriously can't remember it.
At my house we often take Tylenol PM. Or some brand version of it. Helps with minor aches and pains and also helps you sleep. I haven't found that to be too addictive but the hormone stuff is.
