Since it's happened twice now, I guess I can say it's a tradition. I walk into my new dorm room for the year, look at it, and burst into tears.

At least this time I was prepared.

I felt very lonely last night. I don't know how much of it was just the stress from the long day of travel, and how much of it was the total lack of ability to contact my friends and family. The computer lab was closed until Monday, and Eliza, bless her soul nonetheless, has no internet connection. (Don't know how she's going to manage, poor thing.)

If I had had an internet connection last night, you probably would have gotten to read an unhappy LJ entry with the theme music of Avril Lavigne's "I'm With You." Fortunately, that's passed off now.

I got to Claremont at around 7 last night -- about 15 minutes after every food-dispensing faculty on the five campuses had shut down. (On third thought, maybe some of that was low blood sugar, as well.) Students weren't allowed to move in until Sunday, so I hiked my bags up to Sanborn where Eliza had said I could sleep on her floor. Then I went wandering in search of food (never did find any) and people I knew (did find Darcy, but she was busy and couldn't talk much.) In the dim light, everyone I saw looked like one of my friends, but none of them were. When I went to look at Holden, I found that my room was actually opened and unlocked, although I couldn't check in to get my key. I considered moving my stuff over and sleeping there, but decided in the end I would rather sleep in a room with people, even if one of them was a stranger, than alone. I was feeling pretty low.

This morning I felt much better. Maybe it was just that it was sunlight, or that after I checked in, Eliza insisted that we go to breakfast/lunch together. Then we went to Huntley to get books, getting there just ten minutes before they opened, yay. Construction all over the campuses -- glad I don't drive. Or am I? It will make getting around a pain. I ended up only buying two of my books at Huntley, though -- for the rest, especially the engineering and psych textbooks, I looked at the prices and freaked out, and decided to try this Half.com place I'd heard of. Think it went well -- I got all my books for under $300, rather than over $500. @_@;

Then I discovered -- MUCH to my delight -- that the mail room was open today. Which is how I come to be writing this now. Yay!

I'm sitting and waiting for the moving people to show up, since they said they would today. Hope I didn't miss them when I went out for breakfast. o_o;

It's gotten a bit lonely here, too. Your sisters were off today; plus they left for Boston. Don't let the kitten die, indeed!

Well -- small baby mammal, car with poor ventilation, 8 hours. It's worth keeping in mind.

Amy Lee gave her an ice pack. She survived to make Miles hissy and miserable.

We also knew better than to shut the car windows when we stopped at rest areas. She's fine (though Miles is not a happy camper).

Hope you're feeling better today. Wish I could say I was...
