Yay! Harry Potter!

Too hungry right now to give a coherent review, so I'll just sum up my comments to my sister: Harry falling off his broom was scary, Lupin and Sirius were both incredibly sweet, and at times in the movie Hogwarts and the surrounding grounds seemed like stronger characters than most of the characters. They certainly had more personality.

Now I am off to read the book again. What's up with the non-existant media frenzy over this?

As soon as we ditched my children, Dev and I squeed ourselves silly over "old married couple."

Never mind that, what about the "remember where your true heart lies" thing?

Yes! This movie rocked! It deserves to have a huge fuss made over it.

By the way, yes, the grounds were quite animate, but it didn't make that big of an impact on me because the movie didn't even try to show or develop the personalities of more than a few characters. Then again, neither does Rowling. Most of the characters--including people like Draco anf Neville--are basically background material.

That's pretty true of Draco (who is a one-trick pony), and most of the Gryffindors (whose "characters" are often not much more than their ethnicities) -- but Neville is a real character! We've learned his back story and he's had quite a lot of character development over the course of the series. In the last one I really felt how much he'd developed and grown, like when HR&H ran into his parents, or when Neville went to fight the Death Eaters. Definitely not just background...

Mmm, you've got a point about Neville. He's more developed than Lavender or Parvati or Cho, or any of the Slytherin crowd.

Oh yes, Neville is sweet - Ron, too. I don't believe I noticed Lavender or Cho come up at all, but the two Indian twins were cute, albeit they never said anything. The female side characters might be a bit better in the next one, with the dance and all, but I've got this funny feeling they're going to skip the asking, gloss over the dancing, and focus on the "What, a giant?"

Side note: Did they have to make Hermione /so/ clingy? Ugh.
