Not wanting to be a worry wart or anything, but being thirsty after you drink, constantly, is a sign of diabetes, I've heard. Does this happen often or just now?

*worries about Mikke, too* It could just be that you ate something very salty earlier in the day - that makes me thirsty. But, as Kracken said, if it's not just today, you should have a doctor check it out.

*sporks honorifics for you*

Not to be scary, but that was the first thing that popped into my mind... I more or less lived with a diabetic for a while, and that was something he would describe (being thirsty no matter how much he drank). A blood sugar test is something really simple that your doctor can perform, and it's definitely worth checking out.

I was about to say that it was very unlikely, since I don't have a family history of diabetes. Then I remembered that's not true anymore. Ha!

Well, it's *still* very unlikely.

Yes, but your risk factors are still pretty low, as far as I know. For one thing, you're not overweight.

It's just now, really. And I think it's just very hot today, and I'm excercising a lot, and my body can't process fluid intake fast enough. But it's stil enough to make me miserable.

S'possible you're just dehydrated. That sort of thing can creep up on you. By the time you're thirsty, you're already dehydrated.

And it was water? Not soda, or juice, or something with a lot of sugar? Because sugar slows down your body's absorption of water, and if you drink something sugary to quench your thirst, you may stay thirsty for longer than if you drank water.

Yes, water. :p I know about juice and soda. I even passed up on soda at dinner so as not to get further dehydrated.

It may also be a sign of too much caffeine. If you haven't already tried it, go off caffeine entirely for a week, keep drinking water, see what happens... also, aren't you experiencing some kind of record heat wave right now?

Not that diabetes is out of the question, but knowing you, caffeine and heat seem like much more likely causes of dehydration.

Cannot be done. Caffiene is necessary.

also, aren't you experiencing some kind of record heat wave right now?

Not record that I know of, but it has been very hot the last few days -- and I have, as usual, been excercising a lot and sweating a lot. That's probably it. It's just making me miserable.

Yeah, that'd probably do it. Even though you know you have to stay hydrated when something is making you sweat, it's still so easy to underestimate how much fluid you're losing.

So, drink some more water.

Caffeine--hee! And you don't even drink coffee. Hmm, maybe you should drink coffee instead of taking those pills. That way, you'd at least get the additional liquids...as I understand it, fluids with diuretic properties are still better than nothing.

Problems with that. 1) I don't like coffee. 2) I don't have a coffee machine, which means any coffee I drink would have to be bought at a vendor, which a) would be far more expensive than buying a $5 bottle of pills once in a blue moon and b) render the point completely moot since if I'm out of bed and out of my room I don't need the caffiene any more. In order to get the same effect as I have now, I'd have to have a hot cup of coffee sitting on my bedside table when I wake up in the morning.

Maybe when I have a boyfriend to do such things for me. :p

Maybe you could drink a can of soda in the morning instead of the pills? Or switch to half-pills? (Maybe you do that already, I don't remember.)

If the unquenchable thirst was just a one-time thing, then you probably don't need to worry about it -- but if this happens again, or regularly, please, stop taking caffeine! You can really hurt yourself that way.

Or, come to think of it, if you bought a programmable machine you could actually set it up so you had a hot cup of coffee ready for you to drink when you woke up. Many people do that.

I'm not a big coffee fan either, but drowned in milk and sugar it becomes relatively palatable. And some brews are less potent than others.

Anyway, don't mean to jump all over you about this, it was just a worry-inducing post, as you have probably noticed!
