I was struck by the urge the other day to write a satire article, but those rarely end well.



"Marriage Releases Statement: 'Hey, leave me out of this.' "

The long-elusive Marriage, for so long unseen that most people mistakenly assumed him to be an abstract or disembodied concept, finally agreed to a press conference last thursday.

"Nobody told me about all this mess," Marriage said to the reporters. "Apparently all sorts of people claiming to be my representatives have been releasing statements in my name. But I never said anything of the kind."

When asked if he felt at all threatened by the recent goings-on in Portland, Oregon, and San Fransisco, CA, Marriage replied only, "No way, I've got bigger problems right now."

Marriage then said that all the divorces, abuses, game shows, and celebrity weddings going on, that the entity had more to worry about than people whose only problem was mismatched plumbing.

"I don't know who authorized these people to make statements on my behalf," Marriage said. "But if they say they're trying to protect my reputation, they sure are doing a lousy job."

Marriage ended the conference shortly after, citing other pressing obligations. "I've got a betrothal ceremony of a pair of two-year-olds to attend in India," he said. "It's not like I spend all my time in the States, you know."
