Well, I had my first real day of classes yesterday -- technically, it was yesterday, but I only had one class, so it didn't really count.

Japanese, as usual, will probably be my bane. My aural comprehension is still rather poor. And there's this horrible out-of-class conversation requirement. Last semester I had to go to the Japanese tables at Oldenborg three times a week (which involved eating their horrible food,) but this semester I've managed to work out an arrangement whereby I attend a conversation class on Tuesday, and only have to go to Oldenborg one other time a week.

The class itself promises to be unpleasant. Flueckiger-sensei seems nice enough, but -- well, it's a little incongruous to have a 40-year-old European male teaching Japanese after three semesters of little Japanese ladies. His accent is awful. Even I can tell.

Statistics looks like a surprising amount of fun. I like the teacher -- he's awesome. He has mad chalk mojo. The class period flew by, which was especially cool since it was my last class of the day.

Science and Technology in the Early Modern World looks like it's going to be -- a bit tedious. I am personally rather fond of Professor Olson, but he tends to stammar and start his sentences over a lot and ends up making his point rather awkwardly. (Much like I do.) It doesn't help that the class I really wanted was Science and Technology in the Ancient World, but that was last semester, alas, and won't be taught for another two years.

Asian Traditions -- I feel a sense of impending DOOM. -_-;

Once again, the material looks very, very interesting. It's simply that in this case, there's a LOT of it. We're supposed to study India, China, Korea, and Japan, from prehistory to the 1600s. In one semester. Is this ringing the same HOLY SHIT bells in your head as it did in mind? There are only two ways to get through this kind of workload; either you have a bad teacher who only does the most basic overview of everything, or you have a WHOLE CRAPLOAD of material to get through.

Professer Yamashita does not seem to be a bad teacher. -_-;

Take, for example, these books that I spent so much money on. This nice "Source of Chinese Tradition" textbook, in 10-point Geneva font and over a thousand pages long.

I've got ten of these books.

Must remind myself that I got through AP European History in one piece... the two classes look about comparable.

It all sounds interesting. You make me want to go back to school. And how lucky are you to have a great statistics teacher? I've never taken statistics but I've heard it can be the biggest bitch of all classes. Good luck in everything!

Yeah, everyone I talked to says "It all hangs on whether you get a good teacher or not." I think I have! I'm pretty lucky.
