Well, in honesty I think people's LJs tend to give a somewhat skewed view of their lives -- just as in public they always show a pleasant happy face, they tend to balance that out by venting all their negative feelings in a private space. But neither perspective is completely correct, the truth is somewhere between the two.

Too true, too true. Sadly, there have been a few people I've met in RL that I really liked a lot, but their LJs have shown me sides of them that make me less impressed. There are several authors I'll never even consider reading just because their LJ personas are such a huge turn off for me.
Of course, there are also people, like you, that I liked when I met them and I like them even more now through LJ. It's a trade-off I can live with. *smile*
