[livejournal.com profile] ayelle, I got your package! Putting it in an envelope was the right decision, they just dropped it in my box. ^_^ I've had chocolate falvored tea for the last two nights running, it's warm and delicious, mmmm!

My absentee ballot also came in the mail (finally!) Hope it makes better time on the return trip than it did on the way over, there's barely a week to go before March 5th. :(

In other news, I think Spring is coming. This last Monday was actually nice weather -- shiny sun, clear blue sky, warn weather. The week before that there were TWO such days, I actually got my laundry done! It didn't last, of course -- today was full of the soggy heavy snow that makes Toyama so charming. But we're two months past the solstice and only one month away from the equinox. So not only are the days getting longer, but they're getting longer faster all the time. I'm braced for more winter weather before the end, but I'm finally getting hope that we're getting TOWARDS the end -- that the unrelenting weeks of snow-rain-sleet-hail-freezing nights are coming to an end.

I CANNOT WAIT for spring to get here. Really. I've been trying not to whine *too* much in my journal about it, but it's hard to overstate how miserable the winter is making me. I hate the cold, I hate the soggy wet, I hate the iced over streets that essentially lock me inside all the time. Even with hot water bottles, multiple heavy layers of sweaters, an electric blanket and a ceramic heater, the cold is only tolerable, not pleasant.

You might be inclined to blame California for spoiling me to cold, but when I think about it, I've never coped well with the cold. Never. Ask my dad, who saw me stagger out of my room in the morning in high school already huddled in a heavy overcoat. Ask my friends at school, where the first thing I'd do on arriving in the morning was grab hold of them and suck the life out of their skin.

Well, when spring comes here, I'll be happy anyway; and before winter comes round to Toyama again, I'll be gone. Back to the West Coast, where snow exists for the purpose of being skiied on, and it's sunny and beautiful for most of the year.
