Pimping this out on my LJ, for all the people who read Sluggy, and all the people who don't but should.

Sluggy Freelance is one of the best web-comics out there. It's been running for years now, updated faithfully almost every day, and in my opinion is the funniest comic -- web or otherwise -- that I've ever read. Pete Abrams, the arist, comes up with a seemingly endless stream of fresh and original ideas for plots. Undeniably there have been the occasional downturns -- sometimes the funny stuff gives way to serious plot, and sometimes it's just plain silliness. But the overall quality is some of the finest you'll find out there.

The characters are instantly lovable. There's Torg, the empty-headed but good-hearted protagonist. There's Riff, who spends his days working to build ever more complex and fascinating machines in his lab, none of which *ever* work the way they're supposed to, and who is rarely seen without his trench and never without his shades. There's Zoe, who just wants to live a normal life, but invariably ends up with the short end of the stick as Torg and Riff drag her along into trouble.

Then, of course, there's the rest of the cast. Bun-bun, a psychotic, deadly, and adorable rabbit with a love for switchblades and 151 rum. Kiki, a talking ferret with the brain of a hummingbird on speed. And then there's Aylee. Short for 'alien.' 'Nuff said.

There's vampires, aliens, homemade nuclear fission bombs, and gratuitous bikini shots. They go from the far past to the distant future, from spaceships and wormholes to the depths of ancient pyramids. The whole strip is a constant celebration of geek culture and the characters a constant expression of geek values.

Pete Abrams has essentially devoted his life to this strip, but free webcomics aren't much to make a living on. And this comic is not ever, ever the sort of thing you'll find in comics today. It's too varied, it's too colorful, it's too complex, it's too challenging. It's too damn *good.*

Six years of free, fantastic comic strips! Help keep Sluggy going!
