good-bye kitty
Jun. 14th, 2003 06:51 pmWell, the little kitten has gone off to a new home. Friend's family came over to visit today, bringing a carrier (so you can tell they weren't too opposed to the idea.) Kitten was a little bit spooked by all the new people at first, but didn't try and bolt (very much) or hiss and claw anybody, and she calmed down pretty quickly.
I played up the maternal/sympathy card, saying how we think she was abandoned and that's why she was scared of people, that she was underfed and malnourished, and that I'd only had her for a few days and she had already warmed up to me a lot, that she was a sweet little thing and just shy of strangers... that sort of thing. The kitten did her part by looking adorable. There wasn't really any question about whether they would take her or not, unless something drastic and unexpected happened.
So, no more kitten. I'm kind of sad, but on the other hand, I don't have to remember to check in on her every few hours now. I didn't really want a pet I couldn't take care of when I go back to school in the fall, and the parents don't want a third cat.
Overall, I think she was pretty lucky to run into me. As scared as she was when I caught her, she wouldn't have sought out people, and she was too young to live on her own. It was good she was found by somebody who knew how to take care of kittens, and taken in by a good home.
Speaking of pets, the parents are talking about getting a dog. I'm not particularly pleased by this development, as they know just fine that I don't like dogs. I've told them that they can either wait until August to get a dog, or let me have some say in picking it, but I don't want to cohabitate with an animal I don't like and had no say in choosing.
