the good old days of barnes & noble...
May. 30th, 2003 10:21 pmWell, I went to Barnes and Noble tonight with my mother, so that she could put together a birthday list. Browsing among the "new non-fiction" table, I encountered subheaders such as "Why Everything You've Ever Heard About Gun Control Is Wrong," "How the Leftist Media is Destroying Our Country's Values," and "50 Reasons Why Boys are Better Than Girls." Sadly, none of these were intended as a parody. Not even the last one.
(The inside flap of the "Values" one, incidentally, read something like: "If you believe that our youth should continue to be twisted and perverted by the Gay Elite..." to which my first thought was, Rock on, baby. Pervert me!)
That brief moment of humor aside, it was enormously depressing.
